I need help with a research paper. The topic is A gap in equity related to mental health access for veterans. I wrote the milestone 1 part but I am unable to complete Milestone 2 or the final paper part. It has to do with finding a healthcare initiative that addresses my topic and I just can’t seem to find one. I am attaching the rubric.

1 HCM 340 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric Overview The 2000 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report To Err is Human was a c all to arms for the U.S. health care delivery system. It emphasized the need to explore the processes, structure, and outcomes related to the quality of care provided to individuals in our societ y. For your final project , you will research a gap in access to quality, equity, or efficiency of care (i ncluding exis ting initiatives in place to address the gap and economic and regulatory factors that are currently in place to address the gap ). Access to care includes access to health insurance coverage, access to services and providers, and timeliness of the care rec eived. All three of these components impact quality of care. Access can also include affordability. The quality of the care people receive in the healthcare system should not vary based upon their socioeconomic status. For your final project, you will sel ect a healthcare delivery process gap and the population affected from the list below. Then, you will develop a healthcare delivery systems r esearch paper.  Option One: A gap in quality related to care coordination for individuals with chronic illnesses  Op tion Two: A gap in equity related to mental health access for veterans  Option Three: A gap in efficiency related to rising cost of pharmaceuticals for the ag ing population This assessment addresses the following course outcomes:  Draw connections between current healthcare delivery systems and the context in which they were developed  Describe the impact of economic and regulatory drivers on healthcare delivery systems  Identify major gaps in access to healthcare for determining ar eas of opportunity for im proved access to quality health care  Explain initiatives targeted at maintaining or improving the health status of specific populations Prompt After choosing the topic for your course project from the options provided in the overview, you will work to develop your healthcare delivery s ystems research paper . Within the final research project you will address your chosen gap in access, including ex isting initiatives in place to address the gap, and economic and regulatory factors that are currently in place to address the gap. 2 Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Introduction A. Describe a specific gap in the delivery of health care. I nclude the specific population affected by the gap. B. Briefly describe the history of this gap in access to health care. Has this been an issue historically, or is it a modern issue? C. Explain the impact that the socioeconomic background of the populatio n has on their access to health care. D. Describe how the health care delivered to the population is affect ed by the gap in access. E. Predict any potential implications if this gap in access is not addressed. II. Existing Initiatives A. Explain an existing health care initiative that was put in place to address this gap in access. B. Explain the specific goals of the existing initiative in place to address this gap in access. C. Describe the circumstances around the development of the existing initiative. Consider when it was developed and what factors were considered. D. Describe the resources required to fund the existing initiative. E. Explain why the existing initiative is not meeting its intended purpose and now requires improvement . III. Regulation A. Explain a current regulation regarding the existing initiative that has been identified and the context in which it was developed. Why is this regulation important? B. Describe the regulatory level that the existing initiative is being addressed at. Consider the potential for multipl e levels of regulation. IV. Conclusion : Explain the effectiveness of the existing initiative and associated regulations in addressing this gap in the delive ry of health care to the target population. Does the initiative align with initiative in place to support other gaps? A re there conflicting interests to be aware of? Milestones Milestone One : Topic Selection In Module Three , you will submit a 2 – to 3 -page paper explaining why the top ic you chose is a gap in healthcare and analyze the specific populat ion impacted by the issue. This assignment will be graded with the Milestone One Rubric. Milestone Two: Existing Initiatives In Module Five , you will submit a 2 – to 3 -page paper in which you will identify and analyze an initiative that addresses the gap you chose as the topic for your final project. This assignment will be graded with the Milestone Two Rubric. 3 Final Submission : Healthcare Delivery Systems Research Paper In Module Seven, you will submit your final project. It should be a complete, poli shed artifact containing all of the critic al elements of the final project . It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. This submission will be graded with the Final Project Rubric. Final Project Rubric Instructor Feedback : This activity uses an integrated rubric in Blackboard. Students can view instructor feedback in the Grade Center. For more information, review these instructions . Guidelines for Submission: Your healthcare delivery systems research paper should be 5 to 8 pages. It should be double -spaced, include one -inch margins, us e 12 -point Times New Roman font, and adhere to the lat est edition of APA formatting. Running head: A Gap in Equity Related to Mental Health Access for Veterans A Gap in Equity Related to Mental Health Access for Veterans Shellee A Barbour Southern New Hampshire University A Gap in Equity Related to Mental Health Access for Veterans Historically, veterans have a hard time getting any medical care, but receiving quality, effective mental health care has been almost impossible. These people faced unspeakable horrors in combat and need help adjusting to everyday life. This issue affects men and women alike and doesn’t discriminate against any ethnic background. Mental health issues are nothing new. World War I veterans experienced PTSD, we just didn’t understand it then. There were no guidelines in place then and nowhere for these veterans to go, if they were willing to discuss their problems. The “shell shock” experienced by the World War I veterans was chalked up to a lack of courage for discipline. The Veterans Administration was established in 1930. At its inception, there were 54 hospitals, 4.7 million living veterans, and only 31, 600 employees. The main focus was on war related, physical injuries, not mental health. A veteran’s socioeconomic status seems to have a big impact on their access to mental health services. In 2014, 4.6 million, non-minority veterans used the VA’s healthcare services while only 1.3 million minority veterans used their services. The VA hospitals are usually in big cities so if a veteran doesn’t live near one or doesn’t have access to reliable transportation they won’t be able to get help. There is also an unfamiliarity with services they might be eligible for that is a roadblock to their getting help. The location of the VA clinics and hospitals and the lengthy application process are two reasons why many veterans are not getting the help they need. If left unchecked, these problems can devastate a veteran, life. Demographic barriers and false perceptions based on demographics such as age, gender or ethnic background could be an impediment to receiving much needed care. These men and women selflessly sacrificed themselves to protect our country and the freedoms we all enjoy. They should never be made to feel lonely or isolated. If left untreated, the mental health problems of veterans can lead to substance abuse, relationship problems, suicide and violent behavior. References Chubbuck, P., STR.
